The 2 Pains We Choose To Suffer

When people feel emotional pain, the same areas of the brain get activated as when people feel physical pain. Most people know Emotional and physical pain, But when it comes to the philosophy of progress and success there are other types of pain. The pain of Discipline and the pain of regret. We all must suffer either the pain or regret or discipline and there are no ways to avoid them. However one is rewarding and the other is destructive.

The Pain of Discipline:

It is the pain that we suffer by being consistent, by being in control and responsible for our objectives. for example working out on a regular basis, challenging your body to get in shape is painful, but the results are rewarding. Another example is being disciplined in eating healthy when your friends and family always choose unhealthy options. The pain of discipline is the pain we get from not procrastinating. Another example is controlling your budget, choosing to save and invest for the long-term benefit, over spending and consuming for the short-term pleasure. The pain of discipline is a good pain because its results are rewarding and provides personal growth.

The Pain of Regret:

it is the pain we suffer from bad choices, bad decisions, procrastination, and not following through our goals and objectives. For example, when weight loss is a goal and we are not disciplined in our workout and diet, we regret because we let time pass and we end up frustrated with ourselves. This pain is a negative pain because it doesn’t really add value, however some people who suffer the pain of regret tend to look at it as a learning fee, to choose the pain of discipline and avoid regretting.

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” Jim Rohn
